
Marvin Sharpe Hendrix, 95, of Casanova, Virginia, formerly of Germantown, Tennessee, passed away on January 6, 2016. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors. Born on January 6, 1921, in Gibson County, Tennessee, Mr. Hendrix graduated in 1939 from George Peabody High School, and he was a self-proclaimed lifelong learner who mastered in "Happiness". Following graduation, Mr. Hendrix joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for more than 10 years. As a World War II and Korean War he was stationed in Virginia, California, Maine, and abroad while serving in the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. While stationed in San Diego, and he provided early contributions to the first drone project. Mr. Hendrix owned and operated automotive repair businesses in Memphis. A true master of his craft, he designed and built his own custom frame repair equipment. He was active in the Men's Hospital Auxiliary in Memphis and the Memphis Metro Automotive Repair Association from 1975-1976. Mr. Hendrix was a dedicated and cheerful usher at Raleigh United Methodist and then at Germantown United Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Wilma P. Hendrix; his parents, Marvin L. and Maggie Hendrix; and his siblings: Ancel Lee Hendrix; Madge Hendrix; Agnes Hendrix; and Hazel Hendrix Merritt. Mr. Hendrix is survived by his son, Ancel Hendrix and his wife Melba of Casanova, VA; his brother, Lyle Hendrix and his wife Oconee of Memphis, TN; two grandchildren, Virginia Hendrix of Remington, VA and Adrienne O'Hara (Tim) of Parker, CO; and six great grandchildren: Laura, Ellie, Skyler, Jared, Layla and Lane.
