Ernest Joseph Becnel, age 74, passed away peacefully Monday April 9th at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Freidreich’s Ataxia, a form of Muscular Dystrophy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Valex and Winnifred Gilley Becnel and his younger brother, Raymond Becnel. Ernie retired from Guide Publishing after 31 years. He was a volunteer for East Jefferson Hospital for 17 years and a long time parishioner of St. Ann’s Parish. Ernest is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Brenda Massett Becnel; his three beautiful children, Stephen Becnel (Lindsay), Todd Becnel (Shannon) and Laurie Becnel Musselwhite (John); siblings, Valex Becnel Jr., and Debra Becnel. He was Pap’ere to Ryan Becnel, Sarah Becnel, Payton Whittaker, Blake Becnel, Savannah Becnel, Sophia Becnel and Nia Musselwhite. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6 to 9 PM, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie Louisiana with a rosary at 7 PM. Services Friday April 13th 2018, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 3601 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie Louisiana, at 12 noon with visitation from 11 AM to 12 PM.
