John N. Vintila

He was the son of John and Sarah (Lankranjan) Vintila - immigrants from Transylvania, Romania. Loving father of Nick G. (Brenda) Vintila of Akron, OH, John D. (Debbie) Vintila of Strongsville, OH, and Rachel L. Musick of Brookpark, OH. Beloved grandfather of Aaron Musick, Nathan Musick, J.T. Vintila, and Carly Vintila, and dearest brother of Titus Vintila, Val Vintila, and Vochisa Vintila (all deceased).

John graduated from West High School in Cleveland, OH in 1947. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1948. Underwent recruit training and hospital corpsman school at Great Lakes training center in Chicago, IL. He served at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, then moved on to the Navy dispensary in Pearl Harbor, HI, the Naval Hospital in Aiea Hts, HI, and the Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, HI. Shortly after he worked at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. John then underwent further training at the Submarine Medical School in New London, CT. He served tours of duty as a hospital corpsman with the 1st Marines Div., Korea, the 3rd Marine Div. in Europe and Africa, and the 3rd Marine Div. in Vietnam. He served sea duty on the Destroyer USS Mcnair, the submarine USS Spikefish, the submarine USS Chopper, and the submarine USS Corporal. He made patrols in the North Sea, Mediterranian Sea, Bering Sea, and the Atlantic Sea. John retired from the U.S. Navy in 1968 to then be employed in government service in the Federal Bldg in Cleveland, OH for many years.

As a result of his dedication as a Navy corpsman in the Korean and Vietnam war, John - known as “Doc” to his fellow men. While Serving in the Navy, he received the following awards - Silver Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Two Navy Unit Commendations, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Medal (Europe), National Defense Medal, UN Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal (Cuba), Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Korea Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Korean Presidential Unit Citation.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 4- 8 PM at Craciun Funeral Home 14925 E. Bagley Rd., Middleburg Heights, 44130. Where Saracusta Prayer Services will be held 7 PM. All Funeral Services Wednesday 10 AM at St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Cathedral 3256 Warren Rd. Cleveland 44111. Where family will receive friends 9 AM until time of Services.

RESTRICTED VISITATION AND SERVICES - FOLLOWING STATE SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES

Everyone attending Visitation and Funeral Services are required to wear a mask and social distance themselves from others. We welcome family and friends and request no lingering as to give others an opportunity to pay their respects. We are limited to 25 people in the funeral home.
