She was born in Union County on February 3, 1923, daughter of the late Azar and Ruth Secrest Baucom. Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, G.B. Helms; her oldest son, George Larry Helms; three brothers, A.D. Baucom, Bill Baucom and Phillip Baucom; and by her three sisters, Doris Daniels, Sue Hatley, and Johnnie Young.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Don Helms and wife Janice; her granddaughter, Leah Davis and husband John; granddaughter, Amy Pressley and husband Scott; her three great-grandchildren, Luke Davis, Hannah Davis and Scott Pressley III and by her surviving sister, Martha Rollins and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Eleanor Helms will follow at 2:00pm in McEwen Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Mill Creek Baptist Church, 5417 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
