Hershel Eugene Byrd

Hershel Eugene Byrd, age 75, of Jemison, died unexpectedly November 25, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Nora Lee Byrd; daughter, Elizabeth Darlene Hester; sons, Terry Eugene Byrd (Lisa) and Vincent Todd Parker (Debbie); grandchildren, James Vincent Hester, Devin Byrd, Kevin Byrd, Kimberly Byrd, Makaila Byrd, Noah Byrd, Crystal Robertson, Eric Hogg and Joshua Parker; and one brother, Donald Byrd. He is preceeded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Hershel was raised in Siluria, Alabma by his parents Willie Burt and Ora Jay Bird. He served in the National Guard and worked as a millwright in the steel industry. He loved Auburn football and was a hardworking, humble and kind man. Hershel loved to talk and never met a stranger. He loved to play practical jokes, and to make people smile. He would help anyone and everyone. He had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 31, 2014 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). His funeral service will be on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with burial to follow at Elliottsville Cemetery.
