John C Faulkenberry

We are saddened to announce the passing of John Faulkenberry on Monday April 12, 2021.

He was born in Kershaw, South Carolina on July 22, 1930, to Andrew and Cora Faulkenberry. He left Kershaw at the age of 17 to join the Air Force, where he spent the next 24 years in active service as flight engineer for the C-124 transport and later, the C5A, then the worlds largest transport plane.

He was transferred to Smyrna, TN in 1968 as an Air Force advisor to the Tennessee National Guard upon retiring from the Air Force in 1972 he opened his own automobile service company and was affectionately known in Smyrna as “Honest John”, specializing in Volkswagen sales and service. In 1980 John joined Nashville Auto Diesel College as an instructor and retired from their sales management team in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Clara Faulkenberry, sister Bonnie Hilton of Kershaw SC, and stepmother Dessie Faulkenberry of Kershaw, SC.

He is survived by daughters Patricia Morris of Naples, FL, Deborah Faulkner of Murfreesboro, TN, and son, John Faulkenberry II of Smyrna, TN and sister, Jacqueline Baker of Kershaw, SC., grandchildren Gant Faulkenberry and McCall Faulkenberry both of Smyrna, TN and best friend, Ben Robinson of Johns Island, SC.

John lived a long and very full life touching the lives of many.

Due to Covid-19, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

I remember good times together as fellow Air Force families and always enjoyed hearing stories of John and dad's Air Force days together. They were such good friends to my mom and dad. We are so sorry for your loss and our prayers are with you.
