Louis was a great example for me from the time I started working at Basic Hydraulics (1989) until Louis retired. Louis worked with dedication on all projects, always producing a quality product. Louis faced many challenges. He faced them head on, never lost his temper and treated everyone with respect, no matter how tense things became. My sympathy goes out to the den Bak family for their loss and I wish you a great celebration of life, because Louis' life is worth celebrating.

Louis was a great mentor, colleague and friend. We shared some great Bucket Wheel memories together while in the Plant, on site and at the expositions. Deepest condolences from our family to the den Bak family.

So very thankful for the decades the den Baks and the de Waards were able to share together. I'm sure Louis put up with this college student (who could work but wasn't too technical) many times, but never belittled -- only treated me with respect and grace. His work ethic and drive made me strive to follow his example. Recalling his making things for Christ Community Church and of such things as fence-pole hammers and heavy steel Christmas tree holders for the family farm bring joy. His smile and his graciousness along with the zest for life in his eyes, were such gifts to me. Having coffee the odd time in his modular office in the fab shop, as well as times of prayer with him and my father Hans de Waard -- are also good memories.
Strength to the whole extended den Bak family. Know that the One Who is the Resurrection and the Life -- knew Louis and Louis knew Him -- and all things are now good and new. Shalom.
