

Philip Larsen, 62, of Des Plaines, passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was born February 22, 1958, in Chicago, the son of Erna, nee Tielsch and LeRoy Larsen. Phil was a union carpenter in Chicago for over 30 years. He was an avid sports lover, playing semipro football, flag football, and 16” softball. After his playing days, he enjoyed coaching his kids and others at Portage and Gompers Parks in Chicago. He was best known for his story telling, sense of humor, and being the life of every party. Phil always prioritized visiting friends and family, no matter the distance. Later in life he devoted his time transporting rescued animals, donating to numerous charities, and helping put together charitable functions at his alma mater, Carl Schurz High School. Survived by former spouse and mother to his children, Laurie Larsen, nee Averitt. Loving father of Patrick, Steven (Jennifer), Kevin, and Kelci Larsen; loving grandfather of Ryan and Emma; and dear brother of LeRoy, Barbara (Ray) Stamer, and Darlene Westerberg. Phil also leaves behind his beloved rescue dog Patch. Fun uncle of many nieces and nephews and a great friend (brother) of many. Preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Erna; and his brother Donn. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
