

Edna E. Wiley (Mikkelsen) age 96 of The Landings in Fort Myers, Florida, former longtime resident of Kansas City, Missouri area, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2018. She was born December 14, 1921 in Cedar Falls, Iowa to a Danish father and Swedish mother who immigrated to the US around 1910. Edna grew up on her parents’ farm near Cedar Falls with her two older and two younger siblings. She moved to Chicago in the mid 1930’s to join her older sister Alpha (Mickie) and found employment first with Bell Telephone Company and then with Trans World Airlines, starting as a reservations clerk at the Palmer House location in Chicago, then helping to open and serve as the senior receptionist and into management at the first Ambassador Club at TWA’s primary hub in Kansas City. Edna was a career woman and enjoyed her independence. Early in her career she bought a new 1956 Chevy Bel Air Convertible to declare her independence, travelled the globe and purchased her own home. She is remembered for her bright mind, independent spirit, impeccable style, kind personality and her keen interest in health and nutrition.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Elvira (Johannsson) and Miller Mikkelsen, her siblings Alpha (Mickie) Berning, Miller Mikkelsen, Esther Sherman, and Elmer Mikkelsen, and her husband Bud Wiley. She is survived and dearly missed by her many nephews and nieces, grand and great grand nephews and nieces.
Per Edna’s request no local Fort Myers, Florida service will be held. A private ceremony and internment will take place at Fredsville Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
