CLARKE, MERILYN REETA (nee MACIVER) We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Mother, Merilyn Reeta Clarke (née MacIver, September 26, 1930), on Friday, October 16, 2020, in Toronto, at approximately 3:30 a.m., surrounded by all her daughters. Loving mother of Dayna (Wayne), Lisa (Brent) and Christine (Tom). Mom was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren who brought her much pride and joy: Lucas (Ilana) and son Bradley, Jordan (Kerry) and daughter Ayla, Shannon, Brittany, Lindsay (Gordon) and daughters Gemma and Chloe, Braden, Marianna, Adam, Carly, and Skylar. Loving sibling to her predeceased sisters Ailsa (James) and Eris (Christian) (Joe), and sister-in-law to Jim Clarke (Marg) and Alys Widmeyer (Alex), and was a kind aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Mom is at peace now and we believe her spirit is reunited with her beloved, late husband and our dear Dad, Bryant.
We lovingly remember our Mom as a warm-hearted, generous, and vivacious woman who was a well-coiffed fashionista! She was a Sears retiree and avid shopper in her hay day, who never missed a sale! Mom was a champion for the underdog and a fierce advocate for those she loved. Mom cherished her dear sisters and enjoyed being an aunt. She was also a proud member of the Widmeyer/Clarke clan.
Her passions included: her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family vacations in Florida, hosting lavish dinner parties with our parent’s friends, “The Dirty Dozen”, get-togethers with her gal pals known as “The Lunch Bunch”, and bible studies with her church.
Her daughters can thank Mom for instilling a love of gardening, decorating and, particularly, the gift of gab with enthusiastic interrupting! Above all, Mom taught us from her deep faith, the importance of family, unconditional love, forgiveness, and the comfort and solace believing there is an afterlife.
Mom particularly relished family gatherings, celebrating occasions and marking milestones. Sadly, due to distance and circumstances those became far fewer than we would have liked. However, the bonds endure. We have lost our precious mother but celebrate the legacy of a close and loving family.
