Mattie Louise Jones

April 7, 1935 to November 12, 2017

Born, a Baptist, to Willie and Theola (Morris) Vinson attended Lizzieboro Baptist Church, Burdell Elementary School and Ballard Hudson High School where she graduated in 1954. February 22, 1954 she married Rufus “Bubba” Jones Jr. In that union they had one child (a daughter), Harriette Cerita Jones, but that union would end in 1971 when they divorced. In 1967 (50 years ago) Mattie, along with her daughter, decided to leave her birthplace, Macon, Georgia, for the San Francisco-Bay Area (California). After arriving, she resided with her sister, Mrs. (Willie) Belle (Vinson/Walden) Waddell and her family. Two months later, she and Harriette moved to San Francisco where Mattie worked for the Emporium Department Store (downtown) for 25 years. In 1979, Mattie and daughter moved to Richmond, California where, at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, she journeyed home to be with her Heavenly Father, her earthly parents (Willie and Theola). Other family members who preceded her in death are grandparents Christopher and Lillie Belle (Bowens) Morris; aunties: Eula (Essie) Mae and Christina Morris; uncle: Charlie (junior) Ross; brothers: William, Cleveland, and Frank Vinson --- Matthew and Morris Paul; ex-husband Rufus Jones Jr. She is survived by her daughter Harriette, son-in-law Victorio Mario Caruana and grand-son Vincenzo Francesco-Jones Caruana of Sebastopol, CA. Additional family members are her sisters: (Willie) Belle Waddell and Thedoria Paul of Macon, GA; brothers: Clifford (Detroit, MI) and Melvin Paul (Killeen, TX); nieces: Terri (Waddell), Felicia Vinson, Fatisha Paul, Terrell Paul, Peggy (Vinson) of Macon, GA and Sabrina (Vinson); and nephews: Eugene Walden III of Macon, GA; Terence Paul, Diego Paul of Detroit, MI and Eric Paul.

On June 12, 1992 (in Oakland, CA), Mattie was baptized and became a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until her death.
