

On Monday, April 15th, 2019, John Thomas Kizer, passed away at the age of 75. “Tommy”, as he was called by his friends and family was born in Chase City, Virginia, and his family then relocated to Largo, Florida early in life. From there, John went on to serve in the US Peace Core, then returned home where he graduated from the University of Florida. During his time in Gainesville, he met Karla Metzger, who then became is wife of 48 years. After college, John joined the US Air Force and served as a pilot in Vietnam. After completing his tour, he and Karla had their 2 children, Garrett Kizer and Laura Kizer Myrold, and raised them in Winter Springs,Fl. John spent his working years in the insurance industry, and then moved into economic development work for Volusia County. In his free time, he enjoyed wood working, remodeling, and he spent countless hours on the sidelines as a soccer coach for both children.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Adam Kizer, and his mother Emma Monks Kizer. In addition to his wife and children, John is survived by his sisters, Jane and Mary Kaye, as well as his grandchildren, Sawyer and Pierson.
We will be hosting a celebration of his life at his favorite neighborhood pizza shop of 30+ years. The event will be held Saturday May 4th from 11am - 2pm at Victorio’s II Pizzeria, which is located at 200 FL-434 in Winter Springs, Fl.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to one of the following organizations.
