Victor Andrew Elder danced his way into heaven with the "Queen of Soul" on Thursday, August 16, 2018, after a long illness with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Born in 1929, in Hanover, NH, the son of Clifford R. and Lena M. (Hewes) Elder, he was 89. Originally married to Patricia Penn with whom he had two children, Ruth and Andrew, he married Beverly Duhaime in 1969, who brought three children, Gary, Renee and Robin Tremblay, to his family; Kristie arrived two years later. He often spoke of having "Hers, Mine and now Ours!" He and Beverly lived in Lebanon, NH before moving to Londonderry, NH in 1984.
Vic graduated from Hanover High School in 1947, earning a degree in finance and accounting from Bentley College. He went to work for Granite State Electric Company after college, retiring 42 years later. After his retirement he and Beverly split their time between NH, Maine and Florida. He attended Saint Gerard's Catholic Church in Edgewater, FL, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Vic loved people and was always there for them in thought, word, and deed. He loved nothing better than to spend time with friends and family. His kindness, generosity, zany sense of humor, and welcoming smile and wave will be missed by all.
Vic dedicated much of his life to civic services that blended the above qualities. In the 1964, Vic began his Masonic journey when he joined the Masonic Order, Franklin Lodge No.6, in Lebanon, NH. He became a member of the Bektash Shrine Temple in Concord, NH, a great fraternity doing remarkable work while having fun, where he was involved in many clubs, the Oriental Band, and several Past Potentate Groups. He served as Treasurer of Bektash Shrine Temple for three years, served on the Board of Governors for the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl football game held each summer in Hanover's Dartmouth stadium, and was elected Potentate for the organization in 1986.
Throughout his life Vic was always "on the go." An avid sportsman, he enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing, golfing, baseball and bowling. He and Beverly travelled extensively throughout the United States, the Caribbean Islands, Europe, and Central America. His hobbies included playing hours of "Joker," walking the beaches of Wells, ME and New Smyrna, FL, refurbishing lawn chairs with macrame seats and backs, making macrame footstools and hooking rugs, often referring to himself as the "Happy Hooker"!
Vic was predeceased by the "love of his life," Beverly, in 2010, and his brother Stanley in 2009.
Survivors include: his children, Ruth E. Sernak (Joseph) of Pinehurst, NC; Andrew V. Elder (Jill) of Las Cassas, TN; Gary Tremblay (Mary) of Lebanon, NH; Renee Armand (Floyd) of Cottonport, LA; Robin Clester (Joe) of Edgewater, FL; and Kristie Meola (Steven) of Londonderry, NH. his younger siblings: Marguerite Frey of Nixa, MI, James Elder (Shirley) of Keystone Heights, FL; and William Elder (Phyllis) of Keystone Heights, FL; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, Roger Duhaime (Karleen) of Lebanon, NH and Edgewater, FL and a sister in-law, Linda Culvert (James) of Litchfield, NH. And finally, he leaves behind his beloved puppy Charlie, "Pa's Puppy."
