He was born on the 6th January 1928 in Elgin, Clarendon Jamaica and will be remembered by all who met this man of small statue, who was a giant among men.
Mr McCalla in his early years was a teacher at the Elgin Primary School and on Church day taught from the Pulpit. He later became one of the first Male Nurses in Jamaica and began his work at the Bellevue Hospital in Kingston. He was loved by all, as his humanitarian efforts were far reaching and his work was balanced with justice.
He had a passion for Cricket and was the little man at the wicket that was hard to remove. After migrating to the USA, he continued his love for the Sport for many years and was a former President and stalwart member of the BREVARD CARIBBEAN AMERICAN SPORTS AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATION (BCASCA).
A Farmer by nature, Mr. McCalla did not leave his skills in Elgin but used his backyards in NYC and Palm Bay FL to display his agricultural abilities. Many known Jamaican trees, plants and vegetables could be found there as his vineyard was like an agricultural museum. Back in Jamaica he was always a winner at the Annual DENBIGH AGRICULTURAL SHOW in Clarendon.
He leaves behind 2 Sisters, 9 Children (two Sons and seven Daughters), 24 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Beatrice Saunders McCalla and grandson Michael Stephen McCalla. He will certainly be missed by all along with the countless number of lives he has touched in a positive way for 89 years.
