

She was born on January 15th, 1952 in Pekin and is the daughter of the late Louis and Patricia (Starcevich) Fischer, also of Pekin. On March 4th, 1972 she married Denny Brooks who survives her. Martha was the mother of two sons, Jeffrey Brooks of Pekin and Andrew (Carrie) Brooks of Delavan, and loving "Nana" to her five grandchildren: Noah, Timothy, Nathan, Abigail, and Isabella. She treasured her grandkids and her time spent playing with them.
Martha was raised on the north side of Pekin, along with her brother, Frank (Cathy) Fischer of Davenport, IA and her sister, Toni (Rick) Weber of Pekin. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and the Spalding / Academy of Our Lady, where she graduated in 1970. Martha was a stay-at-home mother while her boys were young, but later pursued a nursing degree at Illinois Central College and became a registered nurse in 1986. She spent her career at Pekin Hospital working in a variety of different settings and functions including: Lifeway Chemical Dependency, ACLS/CPR instructor, ambulatory, and surgery where she served as director of surgical services. Her warm smile and cheerful disposition helped put her patients (and coworkers) at ease.
Martha loved singing all varieties of music and dancing. She was past president of the Pekin Junior Women's Club, bowled on leagues, and enjoyed spending time with friends, playing bunco, and going on cruises with her husband.
Her visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A memorial service will also take place at Preston-Hanley on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas R. Brajkovich officiating. Cremation has been accorded.
