She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 12, 1956. Jenny earned an associate degree in ornamental horticulture from Jeff State and bachelor’s degree in accounting from Montevallo.
She was married to Woods McRoy on December 17, 1978.
Jenny owned and operated Alabaster Florist from December 1995 to March 2002. Following a bad wreck in January 2002, that left her with some physical impairments, she decided to devote her time to working with her dogs.
Jenny’s favorite past time was working with her dogs. She had a total of five Border Collies (Snapdragon (Snap), Gyp, Gil, Logan, and Henry) with many years where she had three at a time. She participated with the dogs in obedience, sheep herding, agility, flyball, and dock diving. She was instrumental in the establishment of flyball in Birmingham and a major player in forming the first flyball team in Birmingham (The Birmingham Bandits). She went on to help establish another flyball team (The Dixie Flyers) which she was active at the time of her passing.
Jenny also enjoyed volunteering at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum where she got to put her horticulture education to use. She was a docent that led grounds and garden club tours as well as helping out in the museum during special events. It was one of her dreams-come-true. She had a botanical garden to enjoy that she was not responsible for the maintenance and upkeep.
She is survived by her husband Woods McRoy, brother William Owens (Claudia), nephew Jack Owens, and nieces Katie Owens, Jennifer McRoy Barnett (Shane), and Katrena McRoy Smith (David)
