John William McCormick

John W. McCormick died June 29, 2017 at Banner Baywood Hospital, Mesa AZ. John was born to George and Margaret (Thomas) McCormick Sept 6, 1931 in Bloomfield Nebraska. He served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1952-1956 at Travis AFB, California. He received 6 months of A&E Mechanic training at Sheppard AFB, Texas and another 8 weeks training in West Palm Beach AFB, Florida. During his stint in the air force he married Phyllis (Tews) May 15, 1954 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. He finished his last two years in the air force as a married man. After leaving California he and his wife settled in Iowa. Later they moved with their 6 children to AZ in 1968. John’s air force training qualified him for a position with Allied Signal Aerospace, now known as Honey well, and he retired from there in 1996. John’s schooling was cut short, in order to help assist the family after his father died. He earned his GED while in the military. John and his oldest daughter graduated with Associates degrees from Mesa Community College in 1976 on the same night. He has been a Leisure World resident since 2002. John enjoyed the many new friendships he made there. During his retirement years he was able to spend time with family in Nebraska for the spring season and summers in Pinetop Lakeside hosting many family members escaping from the valley heat. Winter months were spent at his Leisure World home. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends. John enjoyed fishing and took great delight in not only teaching his children but also his grandchildren to fish. John was a quiet man with very deep thoughts. He would surprise others with his insights on many occasions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his spouse Phyllis, 6 children: Regina Blalack (Richard-deceased), Carlin McCormick, Georgette McClymonds (Craig), Margo Marion (Ben), John Brett McCormick (Lori), Kimberly Wilda, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
