JELLEMA, Leida Geesina (nee Snijder) passed away on January 23, 2019 at the age of 97 in Nanaimo, BC. Predeceased by her parents; husband Christiaan “Chris” in 1992; siblings Catrien, Jan, Geesje, Sjoukje and Fokke. Survived by daughters Sjoukje Goodman of Port Alberni and Christina Simpson of Nanaimo; grandchildren Allison Simpson (Rama Dedoming) of Surrey and Bryan Simpson (Bronwyn Coyne) of Duncan; sister-in-law Geertje Snijder as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives in The Netherlands.
Born April 17, 1921 in Nijeveen, Holland on a small family farm, Leida was the eldest child of Jan F. Snijder and Sjoukje Snijder (nee Duiven). Leida met her future husband while working in Amersfoort. In 1954, they immigrated to Canada with two small children. After a short stay in Ontario, they took the train across Canada to settle in the Alberni Valley, where she remained until 2013.
Leida was a generous, hardworking, thoughtful and loving wife, mother and Oma who never complained. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Following a private family remembrance, Leida will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Port Alberni, BC.
