Renata Maria Hamelin, of Port Coquitlam, BC, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2018, with her family by her side, at Eagle Ridge Hospital. Many of you know, Renata bravely fought her battle with cancer for over 20 years. Those who met her would agree she was the most amazing and wonderful woman a person could ever know. Always compassionate, the selfless love and dedication she shared with her friends and family will be forever missed.
Renata was born in Germany in 1946 and immigrated to Canada as a young girl with her family. She spent her formative high school years living in Kelowna, BC before meeting her true love and husband, Ernie and moving to the lower mainland. She had two beautiful children, Amber and Neil, and worked for years as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in New Westminster. Renata was blessed later in life with two grand daughters, Taea and Dalilah, and spent many of her precious days caring for them as they grew. It was this love for them that kept her fighting and smiling till the end.
Renata is predeceased by her mother, Laura (Greulich) Flegel and father, Eduard Greulich. Renata will forever be remembered by her beloved husband, Ernie, her children Amber (Stacey) and Neil (Cheri), her grand children, Taea and Dalilah, her sister Gabby (Bob), her nieces Roxanne, Scarlett and Natalie. Renata will also be remembered by her numerous extended family and dear friends as well as all of her special friends in her Abreast In A Boat team, which helped her tremendously throughout her years living with cancer.
Thank you to everyone who asked about her health over the years and helped our family through these difficult times. We ask in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society Metastatic Breast Cancer would be appreciated.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Renata held on March 7th at 1:30pm at First Memorial Funeral Services Burkeview, 1340 Dominion Ave., Port Coquitlam. All are welcome.
