Stephen Csogi passed away October 3, 2019. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Robert Csogi Jr. and his beloved wife Katherine Trujillo Csogi. He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Paul) Abeyta, Pueblo, and Gary Conrad Csogi, Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Stephanie Abeyta, Pueblo, Paul Abeyta, Portland, Ore.; and James Stephen Csogi, Las Vegas, Nev.
A leader, a mentor, and a friend, Steve was dedicated to serving his community, his church, and his country. He enlisted in the military at 18 and went on to fly B-24 bombers for the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He hired on to the Pueblo Army Depot in 1948 as a painter and rose to Fire Inspector. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict in 1950 as part of the Colorado National Guardsmen, and served as First Sergeant “C” Company for the 193rd Heavy Tank Battalion. In 1971, he joined Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, NY as Fire Chief. Before his retirement in 1978, he received many honors, including a Certificate of Merit for Safety Fire Prevention and Protection for superior achievement. He and Katie, married July 6, 1943 in El Paso Texas, had 64 happy years together.
Over the years, Steve was actively involved in many civic groups, including Pueblo Knights of Columbus, Pueblo Symphony Chorale, Boone Lions Club, the Boone Volunteer Fire Department, Boone city council. American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 8898. In later years, he was active in the Boone Citizens’ Advisory Committee, Sacred Heart Church of Avondale, the Mel Harmon Chapter 128 Air Force Association, as well as the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum. He was a founding member of the Pueblo Aviation Society.
Viewing will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2019, followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., both to be held at T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home, 329 Goodnight Avenue. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Online condolences at www.tgmccarthy.com.
