Kermit Poppenhagen

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 14th, with visitation at 10:00 AM all at Advent Lutheran Church, 9475 Jefferson Hwy, Maple Grove, MN 55369. Kip was born to George and Laura (Rupprecht) Poppenhagen on October 2nd, 1952 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He grew up attending Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, graduating in 1970. After which, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and was stationed in Alaska. Kip married his wife of 38 years Judith (Diehl) on July 29th, 1978 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Kip and Judi raised two children (Ryan & Scott) in Minneapolis and later in Maple Grove, Minnesota where he maintained a meticulous lawn. Kip worked at Industrial Supply Company in Plymouth, Minnesota for over 33 years, retiring in 2015. Kips four grandchildren (Eleanor, Ezra, Maxwell, and Wyatt) gave him much joy and was ever grateful to spend quality time teasing, tickling, laughing, playing, shooting zombies, and building Legos. Kip was a proud man with a quiet strength that complemented the relationship he had with his loving wife. He was definitely the Yin to her Yang. Kip enjoyed birdwatching, connecting with nature, sitting by the fire, his dogs, and life by the lake. Kip is survived by his wife Judi; sons: Ryan of Coon Rapids, MN and Scott (Stacey) of Saint Paul, MN; siblings: Keith of Oak Grove, MN and Kay ‘Tootie’ (Clayton) of Bradford, MN; grandchildren: Eleanor, Ezra, Maxwell, and Wyatt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kip was preceded in death by his parents George and Laura and his brother Karl. We will all miss him.
