I worked with Tobe at Aetna for over 12 years, from 1986 to 1998. Tobe was a true professional, and a true gentleman. He was kind, considerate, never to anger, with a great sense of humor. I remember going to a party at his home before his wife died, with fellow Aetna employees, it was so enjoyable. RIP Tobe.

I was asked to share the following summary about Uncle Conrad from my 2010 book about our family. Part 2 of 2, used with my permission.

Conrad met his future wife Judy Ogburn, a Registered Nurse at Stuart Circle Hospital in 1959. They were married at Danville, Virginia, her home town, on 7 Apr 1962.  Judy graduated from Stuart Circle Hospital as a R.N. in 1959. She worked at Stuart Circle in the O.R. for approximately 3 years and then was an industrial nurse at Leggett & Myers Tobacco Co. for about 8 years.  When Leggett & Myers moved to North Carolina she then went to work for Dr. Hunter Jackson, a Plastic Surgeon, where she worked until Dr. Jackson died in 1984. 

In March 1998, after more than 35 years of service, Conrad retired from Aetna Casualty and Surety Company as Supervisor, Claim Department Personal Financial Security Division. His wife, Judy, died on 27 Mar 1998 seven days after he retired.  She is buried at Westhampton Memorial Park in Henrico County. They had no children.

I was asked to share the following summary about Uncle Conrad from my 2010 book about our family. Part 1 of 2, used with my permission.
Conrad Wilson “Tobe” Tobin 1933-2018
Conrad, son of John Henry and Laura Willis (Sours) Tobin, was born on 5 Jul 1933 at his grandparent's house (over the river [Shenandoah River]) in Warren Co., Virginia. He was named Connie Wilson Tobin which was changed to Conrad Wilson Tobin on 22 Dec 1980 in the Henrico County Court. His family moved from (over the river) to Bentonville when he was 2 years old. He attended elementary school at Bentonville from the 1st through 7th grade. He then attended Warren County High School in Front Royal from the 8th through the 12 grade graduating in 1951. He went from the 1st through the 12th grade without missing a day of school. When he graduated from high school, job hunting was difficult because of the Korean War. Conrad was classified 1-A, subject to draft by the military. He thought about volunteering to join the Air Force as his older brothers had but considering the 4 year tour of duty if he volunteered he chose to be drafted and only have a 2 year tour. Before being drafted he did train as an x-ray technician at Warren Memorial Hospital. He was drafted into the Army on 8 Dec 1953. His basic training was at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and the remainder of his tour of duty was at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged on 7 Dec 1955. He started college at The Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William & Mary in Jan 1956 and graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1959. He worked for Graybar Electric, Dupont and then went with Aetna Casualty and Surety Company in 1962.

Connie was a first cousin of mine and I hold many happy memories from childhood through our college years.  He was kind and modest ..........he never believed me when  I would tell him about all the girls in the dorm that had crushes on him!   My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.  What a blessing to have had this sweet gentle soul in my life.


It was always great to see Conrad W. Tobin at the Dennis Tobin reunion in Sperryville, Virginia.
We will sure miss his visit to the Reunion. My thoughts go out to Richard , Peggy and Johnnie and any other family member I might have missed at this sad time with the loss of your brother Connie.

He was born on July 5, 1933 in Bentonville, Warren County, VA to John H. and Laura (Sours) Tobin. He leaves behind brothers John Jr., Richard Willis and sister Margaret Edmonds.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years Judy Ogburn, his sisters June Aleshire and Nancy Benedict and his youngest brother Thomas D. Tobin.
