Beloved husband of Rosemarie (née Quigley) father to a blended family (some referred to as “The Brady Bunch”), A. Renee (née Ambs)and Wayne Melton, M. Alyson Peltier (née Ambs), Christopher J. Ambs and Scott Clearwater. Stepfather for 39 years to Kathy (née Hales) and Christopher Promutico, John G. Hales IV, Angela (née Hales) and Jeffrey Lemond. Fun loving Grandfather/Pepe’ and Pop Pop to Sophia and Isabella Promutico, Nicole, Jacob and Lauren Hales, Hannah and Evan Lemond. Survived by brother Frederick Ambs, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Predeceased by parents Frederick and Florence (née Rick) Ambs, sister Helene Ambs, sister-in-law Barbara (née Wynn) Ambs.
Joseph was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa growing up enjoying the east coast beaches and gourmet food offerings. Beaches, travel, gourmet food sharing, entertainment and enjoyment became an enduring part in his, his family’s and customers lives.
After a 2 year stint in the Army based in Okinawa, Japan, he returned to Philadelphia and his employment in the Printing Ink for packaging Industry which eventually took him and his family from Philadelphia, Pa to St. Louis, Mo to Dallas, Texas, to Atlanta, Ga and finally to Richmond, Va. He was a very successful hard working pragmatic yet jovial sales and technical representative in that industry until the day he died at age 81.
On March 10th, family and friends will board a boat to fulfill his desire to have his ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean in Virginia Beach near Springhill Suites where he, Rosemarie, and family spent many enjoyable days. A celebration of life will be aboard also..
