Irene "Zaroni "Kotouch ,89, a sixty year resident of Baden, passed away on Monday, July 22 while under the compassionate care of Gateway Hospice and the staff at Elmcroft of Chippewa. She was born on October 3, 1923 in Brownsville, Pa, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Zaroni. She was a graduate of the Brownsville High School Class of 1941.
Irene was a wonderful housewife and a stay at home Mom most of her life but did work for W.T. Grant in Baden for 10 years. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church of Ambridge. Irene will be remembered as a very dignified woman who was always immaculately dressed. She was also very proud of her family, especially as the family grew to include her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene loved to dance and will be remembered as a part of the Baden Circle of Friends dance group who entertained at various facilities around Beaver Valley. She is remembered by all her family and friends as an excellent "polka" and line dancer and even enjoyed dancing using her walker up to her final days at Elmcroft of Chippewa. She also loved listening to her Italian music. Her Italian heritage was always a source of pride with her. She made sure to pass along her family’s traditional recipes for specialties such as sauces, breads, cookies and other favorites, just as her mother did with her.
Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband Leslie whom she was married to for 69 years. They shared an active busy life that included traveling and attending the activities of their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Ruth Kelly, Angeline Kelly and Miranda Zaroni who were a very important part of her life.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Les and Judy Kotouch of Baden, daughter and son in law Judy and Robert Stolar of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren, Jennifer Kotouch, Baden, Allison and David Pane of Pittsburgh ,Christina and Shawn Richey, Diana and Roscoe Holt all of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by six amazing great grandchildren, Michael and Joseph Pane, Joshua and Matthew Richey and Ashlyn and Hayden Holt. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home, Inc., 273 Rt. 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Irons officiating. Private entombment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the United Presbyterian Church of Ambridge.
