Dennis Allen Mivshek

Dennis Allen Mivshek, 73, of Waukegan, IL and Sarasota, FL was taken to heaven on March 16, 2020 surrounded by his family while in the care of Journey Care, Barrington, IL. He was born August 26, 1946, in Waukegan and had wintered in Sarasota since 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert V. (2005) and Mary A. (1995) Mivshek and brother Dean A. Mivshek (2006).

Dennis lived a full life and retired after 22 years of service with the Waukegan Fire Department as an engineer, paramedic, diver and fireman. He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1964. He was active in Biology Club, football, track, and “W” Club. He attended DeVry Institute of Technology. He was a life-long member and Sergeant at Arms of KSKJ St. Mary’s Lodge #79; a member at the Moose Lodge 706, Slovenian National Home Society, First United Methodist Church and Glen Flora Country Club. Dennis enjoyed golf, gardening and home improvement projects. AKA “The Quarter King.” As an avid Cubs fan, Dennis spent many days with family and friends cheering them on at Wrigley; and he was definitely proud to watch the Cubs win the World series in 2016!

Dennis was devoted to his family and cherished their time together. He is survived by his loving wife Lori A. (Howard) Mivshek; his daughters Jill (Adam) Boness and Jori (Donnie) Serbedzija, both of Ingleside, IL. and Jennifer (George) Kuzmickus of Manchester, TN, and their mother Diana Lynn Mivshek of FL; grandchildren Heather (Theodore) (and Heather’s soon-to-be-born daughter); CJ and Stephanie, George (Courtney) and Jessica. Dennis is also survived by his brother, Darrell (Barbara) and their children Luke and Melanie, and his brother Dean’s children, Tina (Jamie) Darling, Michael (Heather) Mivshek and Rebecca (Ethan) Asch.

We would like to thank The Howard Family (Bill, Judy, Mike, Vicki, Brad, Tyler and Megan) for their love and care of Dennis, and for always welcoming us as their own.

Family and Friends are welcome to join the Mivshek family as we celebrate the wonderful life of Dennis Mivshek on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

We will have a brief a memorial service and tree dedication ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at Fireman’s Memorial Park, 2115 Dover Rd., Waukegan, IL in honor of Dennis’ lifetime of service to the Waukegan Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

Following the memorial, we welcome you to join us for an open house reception from Noon until 3:00 p.m., at Glen Flora Country Club, 2200 North Sheridan Rd., Waukegan, IL.
