OBITUARY

Billy James Serrette

2 August , 195718 September , 2019

ST. MARTINVILLE – Billy James Serrette, a native of Breaux Bridge and longtime resident of St. Martinville, passed away peacefully Wednesday September 18, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 62.

Billy was born August 2, 1957 to the late Anatole James Serrette and the late Ida Mae McGee Serrette. In his early years Billy lived in Australia with his family where he worked on a ranch taming horses. After moving back to the states, he joined the United States Marines and served his country during the Vietnam War. Billy worked most of his life in the oilfield as a Seismic Consultant, a career that brought him too many destinations throughout the world. No matter the destination, Billy would leave a testament of love to his wife Paula by carving “Billy loves Paula” in a tree many that can still be seen today.

Outside of his work, Billy had several pastimes. He was a true outdoorsman that enjoyed being out in nature. Whether it was hunting or fishing with family, tending to his garden or chickens, or just relaxing on the patio, Billy enjoyed that time. Those that knew Billy, knew of his passion for music and playing guitar. He played in a band in his earlier years, but mostly played for enjoyment and relaxation, and to entertain his family. Above all, his greatest achievement was his marriage to his best friend Paula, raising a beautiful family of three children and three granddaughters that he spoiled lovingly. Billy leaves a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Rest well Billy. Until we meet again.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Paula Citty Serrette; his three children, Crystal Serrette Gauthier and husband Harvey, Kenneth Serrette and Calvin Serrette and wife Sarah; his three granddaughters, whom he adored, Tana Gauthier, Amelie Serrette and Isabelle Serrette; his sisters and brothers, Linda Serrette, Laura Hebert, Michael Serrette and Mitchell Guidry; and his stepmother, Lorraine Serrette.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Guidry.

It was Billy’s wish that his body be donated and studied for the advancement of medical research. Therefore, his family will have a Celebration of Life Gathering on Saturday September 28, 2019 at Evangeline Funeral Home of St. Martinville from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A reception will be held afterward for everyone to enjoy and continue sharing memories of Billy.

Mr Billy, You were like a father to me and will be deeply missed! You’ve burnt lasting memories in my life and I share them with Paul often. I always tell Paul, “Man, Crystal has got the coolest parents ever” and go on to tell him about some of my memories I had with u guys! Y’all were always so laid back and truly a happy family! I always felt a since of stability and comfort being with y’all. I can remember times when would go shopping with Crystal and Mr Billy was always sure to tell Crystal, “now u need to share some of that money with them” and she would, many times paying for our meals, drinks, lol, etc! I love you guys and sorry I haven’t been much in your lives and to share more memories with y’all. Just always know that you guys are in my Heart always and forever💜 Rest Easy Mr Billy
