Dr. Perry Earl Wood, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 11:06 p.m., surrounded by his family. To know Perry was to completely love Perry. He was a man with a heart of gold that loved life greater than the deepest ocean. He was a man of few words, but, knew exactly how to touch the heart and soul of every person that crossed his path.
Dr. Perry Earl Wood was born on February 22, 1960, a day in which the world was changed forever. Perry was a man of grace, dignity, and compassion. In 1986, he graduated from UT Health Science Center Dental School and started his career as the world’s greatest family dentist to so many in San Antonio. He was a Dentist that cared so deeply for each of his patients allowing them to feel loved and so important. He met his beautiful wife, DeAnn Renee, and worked hand in hand to build the practice of their dreams. They were married on December 17, 1994 and together they built a successful business of 30 years. To say there will be a void in the world of dentistry would be a complete understatement. There is none like Dr. Wood, who truly had a passion for dentistry. As you read this, we know you can just hear his goofy laugh that was so contagious, it would make your soul smile.
Dr. Wood and DeAnn were blessed with raising three beautiful children together. Perry loved his incredible children, Brittany Nichole Rodriguez, Ryan Taylor Wood, and Matthew Maverick Wood, with every ounce of his being. Perry loved spending time with each of his children, whether it included Dance Competitions, Baseball Games, or weekends in Rockport, Texas. He loved being a father and helping his children make their dreams become a reality. He loved his son-in-law, Ernesto Félix Rodriguez, especially when they were together competing for the biggest fish. Perry was the proudest Granddaddy to his pride and joy, his first grandson, Maxwell Félix Rodriguez. No one could put a smile on his face the way Maxwell could.
Dr. Wood had a loving family. He is survived by his wife DeAnn Wood, children Brittany Rodriguez, Ryan Wood, Matthew Wood; his son-in-law, Ernesto Rodriguez; grandson Maxwell Rodriguez; brothers Tommy and Robert Wood and his sister, Stacy; his sisters-in-law, Angela Cullen, Maria Wood, Kathleen Wood, and Donna Becker; his nephews, Derek Wood, Jordan Cooper, MJ Cullen, and Titan Hemphill; and his nieces, Victoria Wood, Alexis Wood, McKenzie Cooper and Lauren Wood. His heart held a very special place for each one of them. We want to give a special thank you to each one of you for supporting him through his journey in life.
Dr. Perry Wood is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Joe Dery; stepfather, Ray Dery; his uncle, Ole Olson, and his mother-in-law, Sue Roland. He will be enjoying his sparkling angel wings in great company. We all know Perry will be fishing in heaven, while being a full-time guardian angel to all his loved ones. His everlasting soul will forever be embedded in the hearts of many.
Perry was a fighter for his dreams, passion, and his life. Perry fought to the very end, fighting for more time to be with family. Although, he may have lost the battle to cancer, he did not lose the battle of life.
