  Dear Toshiko,
  Aunt Toshiko was a special person to me.
  I did'nt have many chances to meet you, but you understood my character.
  I saw the Evans family go to America in August, 1956. I saw      
 the ship move away at Yokohama Port.
   My daughter Kazumi and I visited San Antonio twice. It's  treasures to spend time with you.
   We wanted to meet you again.

Toshiko, my mother, had an amazing life. She was a descendant of Samurai. Toshiko was born in Dairen, Manchuria and was a refugee to Tokyo in her late teens after the War, taking only what her & her sister Nobuko could carry.  She started dancing around the house as a small girl and her love for dancing grew in her later years. Taking about 15 years of Ballroom dancing, obtaining “GOLD” level dancing status, and winning many 1st place ribbons and trophies  in her age group.  
She LOVED her children.
 LOVED animals.
LOVED dancing. 
She LOVED life.


Ruthie, AKA Peanuts in our home, I remember meeting your mom for the first time. I couldn't believe there was anyone smaller than you, but there she was! She had the sweetest smile and eyes that twinkled when she talked about her family. Joshua's memorable interview with her truly opened all of our eyes to the challenges she faced in her childhood. She was a true testament to perseverance and resiliency and her story inspired us all. Thank you for sharing your mom with us. She was small in stature, but large in love and life. We give her great thanks for giving us one of our most cherished gifts in life; you. May God give you strength and comfort now and always. All our love, Jerry, Stephanie, Geremy, and Joshua

Oh Toshiko! You brought such joy to both of my parents when they were together and after Mom’s death.
     First what a good friend you were for my mother, Dorothy,  through the church and in making music together with piano,voice and organ. Mom told me of the fun you had preparing church music- and just playing together  for joy, and talking, talking and laughing. 
      Then Dorothy died and Toshiko, you brought your smiles and laughter into Daddy’s house and into his heart!
      I won’t forget Daddy shyly confessing “O Toshiko- she’s my girlfriend.”  And the joy in my family when he said you would marry him.
     You were always so athletic, dancing, and learning to golf pretty well! And laughing!
     You and I would speak on the phone in later year, until the talks began shortening as your memory began to fail.  You taught me a lot about how to meet problems and after Daddy died you entertained me and cheered me with stories of prewar Manchuria and wartime Japan, when I should have been cheering you. But we shared the grief.
    O Toshiko I wish your final years to be erased. May you dance with the angels.

Stephen and I are so very very sorry for the loss of your dear sweet mom.
We pray that God will give peace and comfort to your family at this time.
My heart aches for you and after all these many years of being friends you know that I love you and we will be friends forever.
God is so awesome that he gave us memories so that we can carry our loved ones in our hearts forever.
