

Ruth McCoig Gregory went to join her Heavenly Father on February 26, 2014. Ruth was born May 11, 1918 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Bart and Jessie McCoig. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Harry Howard Gregory, Jr., her sisters, Helen Lyn and Alma Cassidy, a nephew, Jerry Arrington, and her son-in-law, Jim Dangar. Ruth was a singer during her teenage years, performing on stage and radio. One of her favorite memories was singing for the South Carolina Governors Ball at the age of seventeen. She married her husband in 1941 and honeymooned in Atlanta. They liked it so much that they decided to make Atlanta their home. They built their first home in Buckhead and later in Dunwoody. Ruth and Harry were active members of Wieuca Road Baptist Church. Ruth was a homemaker and mother to her three children. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross for over thirty-five years, working in blood drives and at DeKalb Medical Center, working in the Mother/Baby unit. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Dangar, son, Harry Howard Gregory III and wife, Linda, and daughter, Diana Hoffman and husband, Richard, grandchildren, Jon Dangar (Jennifer), Jamie Kelly (Stephen), Julie Andrews (Richie), Harry Gregory, IV (Ashley), Matthew Gregory (Serena), Amanda Hoffman, ten great grandchildren, and a cousin, Aneah Lockaby (Harold). Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1st at eleven o’clock at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Red Cross. The family will receive friends Saturday from ten o’clock until the hour of service at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
