Virgil Eugene Wuthrich

Virgil was born September 12, 1934 to Walter Wuthrich and Martha Rassi Wuthrich and grew up in Milford, Indiana. Virgil attended business school, became a Certified Public Accountant, and moved to Chicago to work. Virgil spent most of his business career with Sunbeam Corporation in various financial positions ending as treasurer of the Oster subsidiary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Soon after arriving in Chicago, Virgil met Nancy Ann Meyer whom he married in September, 1955, raising a family of five and living in a close and beautiful relationship until Nancy’s death in 1998. After that, God graciously blessed Virgil a second time with a joyful and precious marriage to Ella May Ogle in June, 2000 until her death in May, 2019.

As a young man, Virgil believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and became a child of God. His relationship with God was his central focus and purpose for the rest of his life. He lived for the Lord and served Him enthusiastically. He was always very active and involved in a local church wherever he moved - studying and teaching the Bible (even preaching at some times) and serving in many ways: church leadership, administration, youth ministries, elderly ministries, and evangelism. While in Milwaukee, Virgil took a particular interest in supporting the ministry of WVCY, a Christian radio station.

In his mid-fifties, Virgil enrolled in the New Tribes Bible Institute for further study in the Word of God. Soon thereafter, when all his children were on their own, he took an early retirement from his business career and, together with Nancy, joined New Tribes Mission to serve the Lord in a full-time way. After further training, they moved to the New Tribes headquarters in Sanford, Florida in 1989 to support the work of missionaries around the world – often traveling to very remote locations to help them in person. He continued this work together with Ella until he was unable to any longer due to declining health.

Virgil was proceeded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha Wuthrich, by his first wife, Nancy Wuthrich, and by his second wife, Ella Wuthrich.

He is survived by three siblings: Jean Gudeman, Alan Wuthrich, and Stanley Wuthrich; by five children, Scott Wuthrich, Susan Cook, Donna Thompson, Steven Wuthrich, and Diane Hartmann; and by eleven grandchildren and five (soon to be six) great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 10:00AM to 11:00AM at the First Baptist Church of Debary, Florida, where funeral services for Virgil will follow at 11:00AM. Family will have a private burial service immediately following the funeral service.
