One of my earliest memories from the 1960s was of our family visiting my Aunt Holly & Uncle Johnny, and my cousins, Cynthia & Tom, at their home in Lynnwood. Tom would act as a guide and show us his pigeon coop with all his homing pigeons. I thought it was really cool how Tom had so much knowledge about homing pigeons and was such an expert on how to properly care for them.

I particularly remember a trip Tom took with our family in June 1970 when we all drove up to Mount Rainier and took a short hike up the mountain from Paradise. We all had a really good time. The weather and the view of the mountain was really great and Tom commented on how much he liked being up on the mountain and how he enjoyed the scenery.  From there Tom went with us back to our home in Burien where he spent the night. I really wish we would have had more days like that together.   

I know that Tom had a very difficult life and that he had been suffering physically from serious respiratory issues for several months before his passing. Heaven is where the suffering he endured on this earth is eradicated. Tom had a gentle and quiet spirit, and now his soul has “gone home” to be with God.

When I first met Tom it seemed like he was a loner.  And I knew I  was going to have to do some work to be his friend.  It did not take long before we came to an understanding with each other.  I liked him right off the bat.  Tom lived a hard life and he did the best that he could doing it.  He was my brother and I'll miss him.

My brother loved birds and he shared that enthusiasm with me.  We always had a parakeet in the house when growing up and Tom was lucky enough to raise and race homing pigeons.  I remember many, many weekends when the whole family would drive to Centralia or Longview with the pigeons in small cages.  Once there Tom let his pigeons out and we would race them home!  He did very well with his pigeons and won numerous races.  RIP bro.  xoxo
