Donald Malcom Adamson

Donald Malcolm Adamson (Mac) of South Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at Cape Cod Hospital on May 16th. Predeceased by his wife, Claire, and his son, Keith. Loving father of his son, Donald J. Adamson of Norwood, and his daughter, Jane K. Adamson Pawlukiewicz, wife of Stanley W. Pawlukiewicz, of South Yarmouth. Mac is survived by seven loving, successful grandchildren, and five adorable great grandchildren. Mac was born on the shores of the St. John River, in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada to Lena and Donald A. Adamson on June 14, 1923. Swimming, skating, and playing hockey on the river occupied his life until his father, a successful millwright and mill owner, lost everything in the Great Depression and moved the family to Fredericton, NB. After completing high school, Mac attended the University of NB at the request of his mother, putting off his participation in WWII, where he was wing on the varsity hockey team. He graduated from U.N.B with a BS in electrical engineering in the spring of 1945. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Canadian Navy and worked alongside his father in an electrical shop in Halifax Harbor, decommissioning naval ships. Mac immigrated to the USA shortly after his naval commission ended, sponsored by his beloved Uncle, eager to begin an engineering career in the Boston area. In the spring of 1950 on a visit home, he met, and a short few months later, married Claire B. Rideout. Two years later, he founded, owned, and operated Engineers Incorporated, a consulting firm specializing in the design through the inspection of the electrical systems of most of the major hospitals in the Boston Metropolitan area. What started out in his basement in Needham, grew to a thriving business occupying two office buildings. Mac fully retired in 1990, a well-respected entrepreneur and business owner, and member of the Cape Cod Covenant Church in Brewster. A loving husband and father, his joy was in a lakeside vacation home in Maine, neighbor to his wife’s aunt and sister, teaching his children the same love of all sports on water, including swimming, rowing, skiing, hockey, sailing, racing, and fishing. The joy continued in a riverside home in South Yarmouth, as sailing and fishing offered deeper and greater delight. Mac loved to dance with his wife, to golf with her, to hold her hand, as they are now, finally, doing again. A private family only graveside service will be held at Ancient Cemetery, where he will be placed alongside his beloved wife.
