When Cynthia L. Messina was born to Martha and Paul E. Leary, Jr. Paula became a big sister. Three brothers, Jay, John, and Tim followed and the Leary family was complete. Their military family moved often as they followed Major Leary’s career during the Vietnam era. The family moved to Wichita Falls, TX when Major Leary was deployed to Vietnam. After her husband was killed in action, Mrs. Leary and children remained in TX. Cindy graduated from Rider High School and then attained a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Louisiana State University. Cindy was a loyal LSU Tiger and New Orleans Saints fan.
Upon graduation she moved to Houston Texas to begin her career in design, her first love, ultimately working for Newmark Homes as an Interior Designer for almost 18 years. She won Newmark Designer of the Year multiple times working tirelessly as well as, passionately, to make sure her clients had a pleasant buying experience.
Her father, Major Paul E. Leary Jr. and her grandfather, Lt. Colonel Paul E. Leary, Sr., grandmother, Margaret Sherrill, and Naomi and Raymond Robbins, maternal grandparents preceded her in death.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Martha and Richard (Dick) Mitchell; husband, Jim; step-brother, Step-sons Michael Messina and, wife, Michelle; Austin Messina Step-brother, Jason Mitchell and Step Sister, Erin Mitchell; her sister, Paula Leary Terry; brother, Paul (Jay) E. Leary III and wife, Dana; brother, Jon Leary and, wife, Lora; and brother, Timothy (Tim) Leary and wife Barbie, in addition to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends.
