Marjorie Defoe October 16, 1928 – November 20, 2021 Marjorie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, including beloved dogs that meant so much to her. Marjorie was a loving, caring person. She treated people with gentleness, respect, and compassion. She was always looking out for others and was very giving of herself. She has been a big influence in the lives of many and will forever live on in our hearts! Marjorie was always active and loved to play sports. She played softball, was a curler, and lawn bowler. She was also active in her church. She was a Lay Marriage Officiate and performed many marriages. She loved to travel and dance and always ensured everyone was having fun! Marjorie wasn’t just a participant she filled many different positions in various organizations: President, Regional Coordinator for the BC Summer Games in lawn bowling, editor of Operating Room newsletter, and much more. Whatever she did, she did exceptionally well. Marjorie was an exceptional Registered Nurse – the kind you wish for! She worked in all different areas; among them maternity, pediatrics, medicine, surgery, operating room, and she ran the heart-lung machine in Rochester, New York. She worked as the Day/Night Supervisor in Fort St. John and worked in isolated places such as Frobisher Bay, N.W.T. and small areas in South Africa where she often worked by herself and was truly responsible for saving the lives of others. She went to University of Rochester, while working full time and completed many courses toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was an instructor in the operating room and medical-surgical areas for V.G.H. nursing students. Marjorie had excellent nursing skills and was great in an emergency. She always seemed to know exactly what to do. She had a fabulous memory and was able to recall what area each student worked in. She was well respected by the doctors, nurses, and other staff that she worked with. Family was very important to Marjorie, and she was an active participant in all their activities, going to their games and activities and cheering them on! She was the “best Granny ever” as well as the best grandmother, mother, aunt, and daughter. She will be deeply missed as she touched the hearts of many. Marjorie is predeceased by her siblings, Everett, Eric, Laura, David, Grace, and Ruby as well as family Bob, Garth, and others. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Cheryl, son-in-law Rod, grandchildren Colleen and Katie (Todd), and great-grandchildren Cienna and Jack, and many nieces and nephews.
