James Harry Galivan

Jim was born into a loving family of loggers and business owners. Jim attended one room school houses in several logging camps throughout the Olympic Peninsula. His mother Lena would cook and clean for the logging camps while his father Harry would operate logging equipment. They moved to Olympia in the early 1939 and Jim attended South Bay School in the building that is now known as the South Bay Grange.

Jim married the love of his life Jeanette Maxine Mullins on May 10, 1958 at the Little Church in Chehalis, WA. They have 3 daughters Kathy, Carol and Diane.

Jim began logging in his teens with his dad. In the 1950’s Jim and his dad started and ran a successful business known as Capital City Crane Service in Olympia, WA. During this time they erected many buildings including but not limited to The Olympia Brewery, St. Peters Hospital and many state buildings. In the 1975 Capital City Crane Service was sold and Jim then started his own business known as Jim Stump and Brush Hauling. He ran the hauling service for many years until he retired in the early 1990’s.

Jim enjoyed many hobbies and volunteering. He loved the ocean, his old horse Doc, fishing and spending time in the woods. The family would hear Jim always speak about his old horse Doc who was the best horse he ever met. He would take his family on many road and camping trips all over the country and even up to Canada and Alaska. Jim loved fishing in Alaska with Jeanette. He spent much of this time making family videos of their adventures then after retirement he would put them in the movie player and watch them in his living room. Woodworking and spending time in the shop with his dad were also things he loved. Jim and his father were very close and spent a lot of time together. Family always meant everything to Jim.

Jim was a founding member of the Gully Jumpers Jeep Club in Olympia, WA. In his younger years he spent a lot of time volunteering for his local community. He volunteered for the Thurston County Sheriff’s Posse with his horse Doc and the South Bay Fire Department.

Jim is survived and greatly missed by his wife Jeanette, daughters Kathy, Carol, Diane, 3 grandchildren Amie, Dawn, Steven and his 6 great grandchildren.
