Emilia Khan, with her loving family by her side, peacefully passed away to be with the Lord on September 28, 2022. Emilia was a loving wife, dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born on September 10, 1926, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1947 at the age of 21, she moved to New York. Emilia met Henry Khan in 1949, and they married in 1953. Emilia became a military wife and mother and held the family together while traveling all over the world.
The family settled in San Antonio, Texas in 1975 where Henry retired. After raising her children, Emilia pursued a career in teaching. She taught kindergarten for fifteen years and decided to leave teaching to help raise her grandchildren. She is lovingly known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as WaWa.
Emilia was very creative, sensitive, loving, and humorous. Though small in stature she was strong and decisive. She and her husband were involved in bowling leagues for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and her favorite pastime was word find puzzles.
Emilia was diagnosed with dementia in about 2010. Despite this, she never lost her identity and stayed true to herself to the very end. She lived an active and fulfilling life until the age of 96.
Emilia was preceded in death by her husband Henry and her grandson Ismael.
Emilia is survived by her children Sandra, Clarice, Yusuf, and Barbara; grandchildren Gencie, Brandon, and Julian; great-grandchildren Elyssa, Koah, and Kamila.
A memorial service for Emilia will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148.
