We will miss everything about mamang, her laughter, hugs and her liveliness that lights up the room. Her favourite food is pancit and goto, cooked by Charlie. Everytime she sees our family, she will always give hugs and call my husband kalbo. We love you mamang and you will be missed.

Some of my favorite memories with lola were the summers she would spend with us when I was a teenager. It was so nice having her around daily since we lived so far apart. Although it wasn’t as often as I wanted, I am glad that she was able to spend some time with my kids as well. I’m going to miss seeing her big, bright smile when I visit.

A mother. A wife. A friend. And a neighbourly companion. Throughout her life Purit fulfilled many of these roles and more. To me, she was my lola.

If you don’t already know my name is Anna Mae and I am one of the many grandchildren of Purit.

Lola was a caring, loving and generous woman. She never failed to remind those around her that she loved and cared for them. Her heart and her generosity knew no bounds. Her door was always open – literally – including their apartment door. You could just walk in and many often did.

Over the past couple of months, I spent more time with her and I am really happy that she got to stay at our home with us for a while. Not only did it remind me about the days when I would play card games like solitaire with her, but it reminded me about how stylish she could be. I remember when we were having lunch one day and she asked where I got my coat from because she wanted a long coat just like mine. She wanted one to wear to her doctor appointments so that she could look good. She kept asking and asking for one. But if only you saw the happiness and joy on her face when my mom came home with a long coat for her, you wouldn’t believe how such a small thing could make her so happy.

She was also a drama queen – in a good way – that would make you laugh. She was a woman who knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. I will never forget her reaction when Tita Mir tried to feed her a salad for lunch and she would frown and give her the side eye for giving her what she believed was cabbage.

All in all, she was an amazing woman. She has touched the lives of so many people and it saddens me that she has left us but at the same time I know that she is happy where she is and that she would only want the same happiness for us. I know I have learnt a lot from her and for that I thank her. I love you lola

Love always, your favourite grandchild 🖤

It didn’t take much to make Nanay happy—she was happy with a simple phone call, a card or a visit.

I’m sure everyone here has many good memories they shared with Nanay. This is something we’ll always have to cherish. It isn’t often in our lives that we come across someone so special. Someone that loved us unconditionally. Even if she didn’t approve of everything we did, she didn’t lecture or judge. She just kept loving us, letting us know that she was there if we ever needed her. We were the most important people in the world to her. She lived to make our lives better. There will be many times where we’ll want so much to talk to her or be with her. We can never forget that there is a part of her in each of us. What we inherited from Nanay cannot be damaged or lost. Thank you nanay for your wisdom, your humor, your understanding, your patience and your love. I love you so much.

We will surely miss you Lola. I remember we used to talk to you on the phone when you were still in Phillipines...the connection was bad but it was nice to talk. We finally got to meet you when you moved to Canada. You would spoil us with full bellies! Rest easy ❤️

I remember the first time I met Purtia, she said "when Danilo showed me your picture I told home don't let her get away from you." I think we both laughed. My kids and grandchildren were very lucky to have Purtia in theirs lives. My parents just loved Purtia and were hapoy to meet should a wonderful person.
Miriam told us all we had to write "something and she meant it!"
Goid times!
