A native of Tennessee, Mr. Buttrey resided in Chesapeake for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy as a Medical Corpsman and was a Pawn Broker for many years. He served in the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart Award. His passion was playing the guitar, singing and playing pool.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janice Lynn Williams that have been married for fifteen years and has been his caregiver through it all; Mother in law Jane Koenig, and sister in law Amy Williams and her children Anthony and Alexis, his children: Robin Acosta, Amber Williams, Tyler Williams and John Farris, Vicki Heft, and James Baum. In addition to stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at A.G. Horton, Jr. Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
