25 February, 194318 April, 2021

Joseph R. “Joe” Arena, Jr., 78, of Wethersfield, loving husband to Linda D. (Baritoli) Arena, peacefully passed away at home, Sunday, April 18, 2021. Born February 25, 1943 and raised in New Britain, Joe was one of three children to the late Joseph R. Sr. and Helen (Kopycinski) Arena. He attended New Britain Schools, then went on to work for the State of Connecticut retiring in 1997 after many dedicated years of service. A huge and avid fan of NASCAR, and an even bigger fan and supporter of local and regional race car driver #74, his son, Joseph. Joe was privileged to don full driver racing gear, to be a passenger in a race car, taking a few laps on a professional track, experiencing the feeling of driving 150+ mph. A devoted family man, nothing was more important to Joe than spending time with his family, sharing meals, talking about old and new times and just being together. He was also a good friend to his neighbors as well. Along with his wife Linda, Joe will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his loving family, his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph S. and Debra Arena, in Bristol; his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Rodney May, in Cromwell; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by a sister, Marie Mucci. Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the Arena family. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield has been entrusted with Joe’s arrangements. To extend expressions of sympathy to the Arena family, please visit

I’ve always had fond memories of my Uncle Joe and Auntie Helen with visiting on Henry St. in New Britain in my childhood some 60 years ago. Just a wonderful family and now to think that Joe has even passed reminds me of such a great family that will be missed but glad for the time we had. Always a familiar face and chat at the DMV made the experience somewhat more bearable. Deepest condolences to Linda , Barbara and his entire family in this time of sorrow.
