Panagiotis “Pete” Iokim Ververis, age 68, of Commerce Township, died Sunday, September 5, 2021, in West Bloomfield. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Teresa; his son, Phillip (Amy) Ververis; and all of the loving friends he made throughout his life.
Pete was born June 26, 1953, in Eressos, Greece, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Iokim and Vasilakee (Ameracanos) Ververis. He crossed paths with Teresa Giacalone while she was in Greece on an educational tour. As luck would have it, Pete was working at her hotel, and when they met, it was love at first sight! They started dating, fell in love, and were married in Athens on September 23, 1979 before settling in Michigan. Pete worked as a waiter at New Hellas restaurant in Greektown for thirteen years, where he made many friends who lovingly called him “Chopsy”; a reference to his well-known love of lamb chops. In 1999, Pete began his own caregiving business, where he cared for patients for twelve years until his retirement in 2011. In his free time, Pete could be found listening to his extensive collection of Greek records, watching premier league soccer games, or reading the New York Times. He also held fond memories of the pontoon rides he took with his family on Long Lake. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Iokim and Vasilakee.
In accordance with Pete’s wishes, cremation will take place. No public services have been scheduled.
