The eldest of three daughters, Louise was born October 7, 1921 in Small, NC.
On August 12, 1939 she married William L. Thrower in the Williamston Methodist parsonage. August 12, 2012 would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Laura Walker Melson and William Jesse Melson of Williamston, NC and a sister, Nonie Melson Burden.
She is survived by her husband Bill Thrower, two children William L. (Billy) Thrower, Jr. married to Jean Binkley Thrower, Clemmons, NC, Julia (Judy) Thrower Kells, wife of Doug U. Kells, MD, Smith Mt. Lake, Virginia; five grandchildren, Stacey Thrower Hall, wife of Stuart Hall, Wake Forest, NC, Kelly Thrower Kilian, wife of Michael Kilian, Norlina, NC, Kevin Thrower of Durham, NC, Christopher Kells, married to Vicky Travitz Kells, Raleigh, NC, Lori Kells Broce, wife of Rev. Spencer Broce, Mechanicsville, Virginia; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Wells, Bryce Hall, Riley Hall, Gavyn Broce, Connor Kells, Morgan Broce, Camden Kells, Johnny Kilian and a sister,
Jessie Melson Bullock of Tucson, Arizona.
Louise, a graduate of Williamston High School, worked for many years at Davis Pharmacy, where she enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and get to know them as friends.
She was an avid student of the Bible, taught Sunday School to children and adults for over 60 years, was a speaker on many occasions for various Christian groups, led numerous Bible studies, enjoyed membership in many Christian organizations, and was very active in church activities.
With her husband, she enjoyed serving the community in many ways. She especially liked delivering Meals on Wheels and serving in the Martin General Hospital Auxiliary. She also helped with the Literacy Program at Martin Community College. For their years of unselfish dedication, the Governor of NC presented them an Award of Appreciation from the Williamston-Martin County Council on Aging, Inc.
She was a faithful visitor of shut-ins, nursing homes, hospitals, and a friend and helping hand to all in need.
Her love of travel was evident in the miles she logged all over this country, in Europe and 5 times to Israel, her favorite travel site.
The funeral will be held at the Williamston First United Methodist Church, on Saturday, July 21 at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall. There will be a graveside service for the family after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, the Elms at Tanglewood, 3750 Harper Road, Clemmons, NC 27012, First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Church St., Williamston, NC 27892 or Memorial Baptist Church, 109 West Church St., Williamston, NC 27892.
There will be a visitation from 1:30pm to 5:30pm Friday July 20, 2012 at Biggs Funeral Home.
