OBITUARY

Eliduina (Lida) Conci

26 April, 19265 January, 2021

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on January 5, 2021.

She was predeceased by her husband Aldo Conci, her parents, three brothers, two sisters and grandchildren Lida Rodrigues and Leigha Conci.

She is survived by her four sons, Gustavo (Candace), John (Louise), Joe (Josie), and Frank (Pina); grandchildren Sarah, Tanya (Eduardo), Daniela, Adam (Chan), Aldo, David, Lorisa (Justin), and Mikayla; grandson-in-law Mike; and six great-grandchildren.

She was born and grew up in Grimaldi, Italy and emigrated to Canada in 1949 to marry the love of her life Aldo. Her hometown of Grimaldi always had a special place in her heart. We all grew up hearing her stories of the town, the house, the convent, the church, the bell (dong, dong) and the people.

Her cooking was incomparable and her pizza, pasta, gnocchi, pitulede, fried chicken, french fries and rice balls are sorely missed.

Her garden gave her much pleasure and she spent many hours tending it. Neighbours and passersby often commented on her beautiful flowers.

Sadly, several years ago dementia changed her life. We are very grateful to all the staff and volunteers at Deer Lodge Centre, 3rd floor Dementia Care Program for the kindness, care and love they showed ‘Mama’.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Given COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral will be held at Holy Rosary Church on January 14, 2021 commencing 11:00 am CT. You are invited to watch the livestreaming of the funeral on: https://youtu.be/zF1rYlyCUtU

Dear Gustavo, John, Joe, Frank and families. Our deepest sympathies to each of you, in the loss of your special Lida. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts. I was very blessed to hear her loving and colourful stories of home. She took me as close to Italy as I will ever be. Her love for you all was very strong and she spoke of you all with pride. My daughter was so intrigued by "Auntie Lida" that she accompanied me on some of my visits. She loved her also. She also loved her famous Rice balls! So much so that I set up time for a cooking lesson! Lida looked at me a few times out of the corner of her eye and I knew I was going to need to practice more! May all your wonderful memories guide you through your sorrow. Love Margaret Lamothe, Debbie Lamothe Roskos & Family
