Klaus Dieter Kau

Born November 2, 1939 went to be with Jesus on November 18, 2019. Klaus was predeceased by his sons Randy, Jeff and Dan. Klaus leaves to mourn his loving wife Penny, his sister Karin in Germany, his brother-in-law Fred in Nova Scotia, Bob (Carol) in Ottawa, Anita, Stan, Linda, Mona, Gail, Kevin (Alison), Bob (Lorraine), Lynne, Roger (Carol), Gerald (Elaine), his children and step children he loved, Chris, Stacey (Cory), Tara, Rox-anne, Helen (Luis), Darcie (Ray), Daryll (Julie), Larry, Keven (Dawn), Josh (Nikki), Norm (Sally), Jason (Junko), his grandchildren, Jake, Jeremy, Amanda, Ashley, Tango, Brady, Braden, Kaylea H., Samantha, Seth, Jarrett, Austin, Cassie, Bryce, Quenton, Lexie, Nevaeh, Kaylie S., Trinity, Lola, Jaiden, Skylea, Marissa, Brody, Parker, Jeff, Kiyora, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Klaus was born in Niederbexbach, Germany. He would tell stories of how he played among the rubble in war torn Germany as a child. Klaus talked of being told of many air raid warnings going off where the police would have to lead him into bunkers for protection. Later at the young age of 14, Klaus worked and lived with a butcher for board & room. He worked in the butcher shop for 3 years to learn a life skill that would follow him to Canada. At age 21 he followed his two sisters, who married Canadian soldiers, and landed in Montreal Canada, on March 12, 1960. He struggled to find work throughout Ontario and Manitoba settling in Winnipeg to work in various jobs including many butcher shops. He eventually was hired at Burns where he worked for approximately 29 years. Klaus married his loving wife Penny on May 11, 1996 and shortly after that he retired.

Klaus loved hard work and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved nature, bike riding, camping, travelling, dancing, whistling and singing, playing the harmonica, swimming at the beach, researching and discussing geography and history. He enjoyed long walks and visiting friends.

Klaus and his loving wife Penny, regularly attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He loved to always protect and support her in everything, including their love for the Lord. He would often buy her flowers for no reason and tell her he loved her. Klaus loved his wife Penny and together they enjoyed many trips to the east and west coast of Canada, throughout Europe including many trips to Germany. It was following their last trip to Germany when Klaus’ health started to change. Although Klaus struggled with many different pains and illnesses in his last years, he never complained about it and always thanked his wife for caring for him.

Thank you to my family and friends who supported Klaus and I through our marriage and dropped everything to be with me during this time. Thanks to SOGH Home Hemo team for all their support to Klaus. Thanks to the Winnipeg emergency teams and St. Boniface hospital who did their best for Klaus but Jesus won!

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or The Huntington’s Society.

Pastor Harold will be officiating the service. Service to be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church – 708 McCalman Ave., Winnipeg on November 25, 2019 @ 11:00 am. The family welcomes you to join them in the lower level of the church for a fellowship luncheon after the service. Following the luncheon, the committal will take place at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery on Highway 1 East at Navin Road.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day --- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
