Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband Harry; parents, Anastasia and Ferdinand Blonski, and sister Nellie. She will be greatly missed by her children, Jo-Ann (Rodger) Spelmer, and Greg (Linda) Defer, her grandchildren, Tara (Dave) Spelmer-Mack, Chris (Krista) Spelmer, Kristin (Daniel) Defer and her great grandchildren, Chanelle and Caleb. Also left to mourn her loss are her brothers and sisters, Jennie, Joe, William (Ruth) and Minnie; along with many nieces and nephews here in Winnipeg and Toronto.
Born in Elma, Manitoba, she excelled at school and at 15 came to Winnipeg to live with an aunt, taking various jobs to support herself. In 1948 she met Dad, the love of her life and they married within 3 months.
Besides raising her young family, Mom worked in the garment industry as a supervisor. Her career strengths included everything from welcoming newcomers to Canada, to assisting them in integrating into our culture, to making repairs to malfunctioning sewing machines with the most basic of tools. She had a special vision that allowed her to create and revise patterns with as little as a cursory overview. At home the whole family benefited from her many alterations and creative repairs. Even with a full-time work schedule, she managed to prepare delicious family meals, grew all her own vegetables and was the consummate home provider and care giver.
Mom loved socializing. Every Thursday she joined Toni, her childhood friend, to spend the day at Bronx Park Senior’s Center, enjoying lunch and games with everyone.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday May 31, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Victoria General Hospital for our mother’s compassionate care.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
“Mom you will be forever missed and never forgotten.”
