Ruth was born to Ralph and May (Nicklen) Smith in Rural Saskatchewan, and was the 6th born of 12 children. Her parents became born again Christians prior to Ruth’s birth and her father became very involved in proclaiming the word of God, doing itinerant Preaching, and later in pastoring churches.
At a very early age Ruth became aware of her sinful condition through the quickening power of God the Holy Spirit and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ become a child of God. Ruth completed High School in the Pas, MB and shortly after become student at Winnipeg Bible College.
After graduating WBC she began training at St. Boniface school of Nursing and graduated with the class of 63A. She spent 27 and a 1/2 years nursing at Ste. Rose General Hospital. In 1989 she graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1992 she received a Certificate of Health Care Administration Acute Care, from the University of Saskatchewan. Later on in 1992, she retired, in order to be near to her Mother who was in a nursing Home in Winnipeg and in the last months of her Mother’s life she cared for her own home, with the help of her sister Violet.
In 1998 she married Frank Vust, and they made their home in Winnipeg. In August of 2014, she became a patient in St. Boniface Hospital, there receiving the best of care by compassionate staff. In February 2016 she as transferred to Action Marguerite, St. Boniface and remain there until her death. It is difficult to find words to fully express the kind, loving, thoughtful care she was given there. Truly a very well managed facility.
