Alva Doris Talley died late Monday night on September 14, 2020. She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio but moved to the Tidewater area with her late husband Raymond Talley Sr. later in life.
She had worked for the Dayton School Board in various roles before retiring and moving. Later she took a job at a Daycare in Newport News, Va. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the small children. Everyday she had a story to tell you that would make you laugh. She stayed there until Mr. Talley fell ill.
Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her parents Roger W. Bailey and Ollie Berry Glanton, both from Newnan Georgia; her husband of 53 years, Raymond Talley Sr., from Dayton, Ohio; and 4 brothers, Obre Bailey, James Bailey, June Bailey, and Clarence Bailey.
Mrs. Talley is survived by 1 brother, Bobbie Bailey and his wife Dorothy Bailey, and 1 sister, Wilma Allen. She has 3 daughters, Carolyn Thomas from Vallejo California: Mahassen Brunson (JoJo) and her significant Kim Cooper of McGaheysville, Virginia; Kim Talley from Newport News; and 1 son, Raymond Talley Jr. and his wife Patricia Talley from Carrollton, Virginia.
9 grandchildren, Doris Hankins, Zinah Husam, Yousef Husam, Kaleena Morgan, Jasmeen Husam, Raymond Talley III, Charles Lawrence, Naseem Husam, and Lakota Lawrence; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; with a host of nieces and nephews, other family members, and really wonderful friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
My mother will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, Virginia on Monday September 28, 2020 at 11:00 am.
