Mike was raised in Crowley, Louisiana but made his life in Lake Charles. He was a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He was a graduate of USL with a B.S. in Industrial Arts, College of Education. He was proud to serve as a Captain in the United States Air Force, 538th Fighter Squadron. After his service, he pursued a career as an insurance adjuster where he was able to travel the country on “storm duty”; which led to him starting his own insurance adjusting company.
Mike enjoyed dove hunting with family and friends, especially in South Texas at his favorite camp - “GOMA”, bar-b-queing, Cajun and zydeco music and dancing where he would never let a single lady go without dancing. He enjoyed motorcycles (which got him in trouble in 1971), guns, knives and all things Dallas Cowboys and Aliens. He was a member of the NRA, past member of the Cajun French Music Association, along with a variety of insurance associations. Everyone who knew Mike a.k.a Uncle Mickey, would agree he had a personality larger than life and loved to yell “I feel GOOOOD”.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife (and caregiver), Marie Champion Scimemi; step-son, John M. Cabiness (Elisabeth) of Katy, TX; daughter, Michelle Piatt (Ronald) of Lake Charles, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, beloved in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and a multitude of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Joe.
Visitation services will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 beginning at 8:30 am, with a rosary at 9:30 am, followed by a Liturgy of the Word at 11:30 with internment immediately following at Consolata Cemetery.
Mike has requested his family and friends have a BBQ in his honor after his passing. The family will announce his celebration of life at a later date.
