Mona Munro age 80 years, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at her home surrounded by family. Mona was born in Kennoway, Fife, Scotland on May 24 1939 to John and Mary Davidson. She was the second of four children.
Throughout her life, Mona drew strength from her faith. She loved life and knew how to savor every moment. Mona also loved Elvis, the King. Those who knew Mona will never forget her Elvis ball cap and sunglasses combo that she would wear on many occasions. Mona loved music and singing. She loved performing as an Elvis impersonator and performing with the Young at Heart Band. The band entertained residents of area nursing homes.
Mona was also a great fan of the actor, James Dean. Once, she submitted a painting of Dean to the fan club and Dean’s aunt who saw the painting, wrote and asked Mona if she could keep the painting of her nephew.
Storytelling was Mona’s favorite past time. She was known as a seanchai, Gaelic for story teller. Just as some people drink and party, Mona would be up to the wee hours of the morning on a Friday night telling her stories to friends who loved the way she would remember minute detail. She could weave back and forth and in-and-out of her stories and somehow end up tying everything back together with ease. She loved spending hours in the gazebo at the apartment complex in Greensboro, where she lived, whenever the weather was pleasant enough for a good gab!
In her teenage years, after completing Secondary School, Mona lived in as a nanny, away from home. Mona loved caring for children and babies. After being a nanny, Mona went back to her hometown and worked locally at the factories or for local farmers. In the evenings she would sketch and sometimes paint. Soon, her father saw that she was artistic and encouraged her to attend The Glasgow School of Art.
The years went by and Mona became captivated with Hollywood movies and soon developed a yearning to see America. She successfully applied for a position as a nanny in Hartford, Connecticut and worked there until she met her husband, Donald Munro. She married Donald and had three children, Joanne, Michael and Kathleen, in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Mona was well loved by her family and friends and will be very much missed.
Mona is preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents and her siblings, John, Archie and Maureen. Surviving are her three children, Joanne Scotton (Paul), Michael Munro and Kathleen Munro; grandchildren, Kyle and Karrigan; all in North Carolina; niece, Laurie Kearns (John); nephew, David Olson; great niece, Emily and two great nephews, Scott and Daniel all from Massachusetts.

The funeral service will be held at 2 pm on February 18 2020 at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Chapel at 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.
