Obituary of Mildred Othelia Lindquist
Lindquist, Mildred Othelia Passed away peacefully on July 10, 2018 in her 95th year. Predeceased by her husband Phillip, son Keith, parents Jacob and Agnes Nelson, three brothers, and three sisters. Survived by sisters Grace Ingulsrud, Joyce Christensen, Ruby Timms, and Rose-Aline Begalke. Her children, Bryan (Dianne), Phyllis (Doug Cook), Les (Nancy), and Kevin, along with her 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, will miss her wisdom, unconditional love, and sense of humour, but will continue to be inspired by her faith and her life. Mildred taught school in Centre Spring and there met a farmer to whom she was married for 59 years. With her unshakeable belief in God and the encouragement of her husband, Mildred never let obstacles stop her, including norms of society. In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Mildred was a builder, building a house on the farm with only hand tools; an entrepreneur, building a successful egg business, and an Amway business, a remarkable caregiver, especially with Keith where she invented tools to help him deal with cerebral palsy, and extending beyond family, being instrumental in creating a Homemaker service in Swift Current. Mildred embraced technology, leaving a wealth of family history in videos. She wrote many short stories on her PC about her experiences. She kept current with her family via email until macular degeneration stole her vision in the last few months. She believed in education, encouraging her children to get degrees and investing in scholarships for her grandchildren. She and Phil ran a community Sunday School in their farm community and she taught the nursery class for 30 years. Later, she taught parenting classes and was a speaker for Stonecroft ministries. But, mostly she inspired her family to believe that doing the seemingly impossible was sometimes the right thing to do, simply because it needed to be done. Her legacy will continue. Mildred’s life will be celebrated on July 24th at 2:00 pm in the Harrison West Chapel at Elim Village, 9025 160th Street, Surrey, BC V4N 2X7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a provincial Cerebral Palsy Association.
