Herman O. Edwards

Herman O. Edwards, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2019, in Amarillo, TX. Mr. Edwards will lie in state on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm in the Griggs Schooler Gordon Funeral Home; 5400 Bell Ave in Amarillo. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 2pm in the Memorial Park Cemetery’s East Mausoleum Chapel located at 6969 E. Interstate 40 in Amarillo; with Rick Black presiding. Herman was born March 14, 1933, in Olton, TX, to John and Tommie (Perry) Edwards. He married the love of his life, Alice Ann Jones on August 14, 1953. Herman joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served 4 years and was Honorably Discharged in 1957. Although he was skilled in many different areas including plumbing, electrical, building and upholstery, he found his calling with the US Postal Service in 1965 and retired from there in 1991. After retirement he and Alice Ann traveled with their RV researching their ancestors, and frequenting their favorite camping spot in Lake City, CO. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Alice Ann, his parents, two great-grandsons Donald Johnson and Levi Edwards; and daughter-in-law Teresa Edwards. He is survived by daughter Cynthia Ann Edwards, and sons Jonny Edwards and wife Paula of Amarillo, TX, and Mikel Edwards of Bailey, CO; Sister Betty Alexander of Slaton, TX; 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Friends, family and loved ones will celebrate Herman’s life.
